The Bidens donated $20,180 in 2022 (roughly 3.5% of their income) to twenty charities, including one affiliated with police unions.
US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden, a university professor who continues her work, had incomes of $579,514 and paid taxes of $169,820 in 2022 – at a rate of 23.8% -, the White House announced yesterday Tuesday.
“With this release, President Biden has now made public his tax returns for a total of 25 years,” the US presidency’s press release states.
The announcement insists on the 80-year-old Democratic politician’s “commitment to transparency,” a comment not exactly as innocent as it sounds in the current political climate.
Joe Biden, who promised a few days ago that he will soon formalize his candidacy for re-election in 2024, is likely to face his predecessor Donald Trump again.
The Republican, who has defied the White House’s tradition of transparency on tax issues, is fighting hard – including in the courts – to keep his own tax returns from being released.
A US House committee, however, voted in December to release the real estate mogul’s tax returns from 2015 to 2020.
They revealed that Mr Trump paid just $750 in taxes in 2017, his first year in the White House, then about a million in 2018 and 2019, and that the result on his tax return was… zero in 2020, the year of his loss to Mr. Biden, as he reported a $5 million loss.

Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff reported income of $456,918 in 2022, according to the White House
