Canadian police have launched an investigation into the heist of a large amount of gold at Toronto’s international airport, which is often used to store the precious material extracted from mines in Ontario.

It is one of the biggest heists of the decade and involves the theft of gold and other valuables stolen from a container unloaded from an aircraft that landed at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

According to preliminary data, the robbers allegedly took $15 million worth of gold and other valuables. The high-value container arrived at the airport on the evening of April 17 and was transferred to a facility where valuables are usually kept.

Police believe the robbery took place at this location. This robbery can be considered one of the largest in Canadian history, including this and the robbery of 3,000 tons of maple syrup in 2012, the value of which exceeds 12 million dollars.

Police Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn said the investigation team was looking at all the evidence and described Monday’s incident as an isolated incident. He also said the container was about 5 square meters in size, but declined to say how much it weighed.

The Toronto Sun previously reported that police believe organized crime groups were involved in the robbery.
