The Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan canceled today’s campaign events on doctors’ advice, as well as public appearances after feeling unwell last night.

Erdogan himself issued a statement in which he says: “I would like to thank every member of my noble nation, every one of my brothers and sisters, who conveyed their wishes and prayers for the little inconvenience I had during of the show due to my busy schedule.

» Today I will rest at home with the advice of our doctors. Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet today with my brothers from Kırıkkale, Yozgat and Sivas.

»The Vice President Fuat Oktai will participate in our pre-election program. With God’s permission we will continue our program from tomorrow. We will continue to work to bring our beloved nation to the goals of Turkey’s century.

“On this occasion I wish all my citizens health, peace and joy.”

Panic on air

There was panic in Turkey last night when Erdogan’s televised interview with the KANAL 7 television network was cut off air as the president suddenly felt unwell.

As reported by Manolis Kostidis, while ErdoÄŸan’s interview continued, voices were heard: “Oh my God”, inside the presidential palace, the journalist asked to go to commercials and the program was abruptly interrupted.

After about 10 minutes, Erdogan appeared again, apologized to the viewers, said that he had some stomach disorder due to the fatigue of the election campaign.

The Turkish president’s interview ended within minutes as he was visibly overwhelmed.

A CNN TURK reporter reported: “Our information is that the president has a stomach cold. But now his health condition is good. You know…in election campaigns leaders can get into trouble like that”

Celik and Oktai reassure

A related statement was made by the vice-president of the AKP and a representative of the party in order to reassure Omer Celik: “The health of our President is very good. Thank you to everyone who sent their wishes for a speedy recovery.”

A similar message from the vice president of the Turkish government, Fuat Oktay: “Thanks to our President, Mr. Erdogan’s health is very good. Thank you to everyone who sent their wishes for a speedy recovery.”
