Trinto made the above statement in a communication he had with the local prime ministers as the country is facing an increase in cases and hospitalizations due to the highly transmitted Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
According to him, the government plans to deliver 140 million rapid tests in the provinces and territories of the country in January, according to the announcement of the prime minister’s office.
This month, Canada broke the daily record for the largest number of COVID-19 patients.
Last Friday, authorities announced that the new daily cases were 65% more than a week earlier threatening the health system.
Official figures show that by December 18, 87.3% of Canadians over the age of 12 had been vaccinated in two doses, while the vaccination rate for children aged 5 to 12 was just 1.3%.
