The 38-year-old was arrested in Cut and Shoot, Texas, less than 30 kilometers from the scene of the massacre, San Jacindo County District Attorney Todd Dillon told NBC television. The man had been deported from the US four times since 2009.
More than 250 police officers, local and federal, have been looking for the suspect for days in this state of the American South, where guns abound.
Authorities offered an $80,000 reward for information leading to the identification of this “monster,” as FBI agent James Smith called him.
