Russia launched a new round of airstrikes against Kiev overnight, the third in six days, authorities in the Ukrainian capital said today, with a drone striking a building in Dnipropetrovsk province.

Ukraine’s air force said it had destroyed 21 of the 26 Iranian-made Shahed drones fired by Russia, while Kiev officials said the air defense system shot down those spotted over the capital.

There are currently no reports of casualties or damage in the Ukrainian capital.

“All enemy targets were identified and shot down in the airspace around the capital,” Kyiv’s military command announced on Telegram, citing preliminary information.

Air raid sirens sounded for hours in and around Kiev, as well as across most of eastern Ukraine.

Russia has stepped up its attacks against Ukraine in anticipation of an expected counterattack by Kiev, carrying out almost nightly drone and missile strikes against the capital and other areas.

One of the drones launched overnight hit a government building in Dnipro, the capital of Dnipropetrovsk province, according to its governor, Serhii Lysak. The resulting fire was extinguished in the morning.

As Lisak added, the anti-aircraft defense shot down seven drones in the area.
