King Charles and his son, Prince William, took to the streets today to greet people gathered outside Buckingham Palace in central London in anticipation of tomorrow’s coronation.
Charles drove out of the palace gates in his royal car but stopped halfway down the high avenue leading to Buckingham.
Many Britons have been camping in this area for days, in anticipation of the ceremony. He exchanged handshakes and smiles with many of them while others cheered him on with cheers and chants of “God save the king”.
“You don’t get much sleep over here, I learn,” William told a woman, referring to the people living in tents that have already created a festive atmosphere, despite the heavy rain.
“I hope you don’t get wet,” he added.

On Thursday, William and Kate took the tube to a traditional London pub, where they had the chance to chat with patrons and owners, two twenty-four hours before the coronation.
