Incidents unfolded at the pre-election rally of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu in the city of Erzerum.
As SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, reported in the central news bulletin, a group of 100-150 people attacked by throwing stones at Imamoglu’s supporters and his bus.
The mayor of Istanbul tried to calm the gathered crowd to avoid the worst, speaking of provocations.
“To avoid any harm, to avoid something… No, no provocations. Please a handful of people are trying to challenge you. Go back a little,” he said.
As the incidents did not stop, he himself fled from his security men and moved away from the gathering place. Ekrem Imamoglu returns to Istanbul by plane.
For the incidents, Imamoglu launched an attack on the police, the police chief and the city prefect for not doing anything to prevent the incidents.
“You police officers are just watching what’s going on. We are also watching you,” he said.
