Few leaders, all from countries of the former Soviet Union and a “decadent” parade this year features for the May 9th Holiday
THE Victory Day it symbolizes the defeat of the Nazi forces by the Allies and essentially the beginning of the end of the Second World War. A day that marks the new era, a world that will not resolve its differences with weapons, but with diplomacy, logic and prudence. At that time, Russian forces took the lead in the war against the Axis. Almost 80 years later, Russia appears to have crossed the river and is threatening the world with a world war, the devastating consequences of which would be a foregone conclusion.
This year’s festivities May 9 in Moscow were conducted in the shadow of the war in Ukrainian. More than a year after Russian forces invaded Ukraine, the Russian president looks more isolated than ever. The previously great celebration of the Allied forces against the Axis, the liberation of Europe from the yoke of the Nazis, has lost its glamor as it is held in the capital of the country that now threatens the world.
This year’s image of the events is typical. Only the leaders of countries close to the Kremlin’s influence rushed to Moscow. And while in the recent past, the Russian capital has become the center of a gathering of world leaders, this time, Putin welcomed just seven leaders who responded to his call. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Belarus and Armenia they were the only ones represented in this great celebration for May 9, a date associated with the defeat of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi forces.
Similar image of “decline” in the parade. In previous years, dozens of Russian tanks crossed the square and new weapons made their appearance. This year, the parade was reduced to… the basics, with a WWII-era T-34 tank symbolizing the battle that took place many decades ago. At the same time, however, to remind everyone that a war in Ukraine is ongoing and that Russia is “strained” in terms of equipment, without excess forces for parades and demonstrations.
In his speech, Putin once again settled for his own narrative, accusing the West of causing the war and of being behind the Kiev government.

“We want a peaceful future”, asserted the Russian president, considering that “against our homeland a real war broke out”. “We are proud of the members of the special military operation,” Putin said, calling on the world not to forget “who defeated the Nazis.”
He stated at the same time that “for Russia there are no hostile peoples neither in the west nor in the east”. “Battles that determine the fate of our country have always become sacred. We are proud of the members of the special military operation, of all those who fight on the front lines. There is no more important thing now than your fighting work. The future of our state and our people depends on you.” he said characteristically.
Mr. Putin stated that “today civilization is at a turning point” and “a real war has been waged against the motherland.” “But we defeated terrorism, we will protect the people of Donbas, we will guarantee our security. There are no unfriendly countries for us, any ideology of superiority is criminal. But the elites of Western globalization talk about their “exceptionalism”, sow Russophobia, spread values that go against what makes a person human,” said the Russian president.
Putin described the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers in many countries as a crime, speaking of the “creation of a Nazi cult”. As he said, “defiling a generation of winners is also a crime.” “They want the destruction of the Russian Federation, erase the results of World War II. “The Ukrainian people are hostages of the coup and the regime in the hands of the West,” said the president of the Russian Federation.
He concluded his speech with the words: “For Russia, for our brave armed forces, for Victory. Ask!” after the anthem of the Russian Federation was played.
A little earlier, the parade of thousands of soldiers started in Moscow under the watchful eye of Putin and other members of the Russian political elite, during today’s anniversary celebrating the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in World War II.
The annual military parade of the Russian Armed Forces takes place in Red Square in Moscow in a show of military might.
Putin walked from the Kremlin to Red Square to watch the parade featuring military personnel carrying Russian and Soviet Union flags.
Finally, Putin called for a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of World War II, while a clock was heard ticking loudly every second. The Soviet Union lost at least 20 million people at war.
A minute’s silence is observed in Red Square, Moscow as Russia marks Victory Day.

Kyiv: “Parade of the killers”
“Lies, parade and… Putin with accomplices and observers in the stands of hypocrisy… Before gathering for the Kremlin’s ‘parade of killers’, Russia fired 25 cruise missiles (15 of them at Kiev) at peaceful cities of Ukraine at night. In a satanic attempt to “liberate” citizens from their lives, their freedom and their homes” President Zelenksi’s adviser says in a message on Twitter Mihailo Podoliak.
