THE Litang Liang, 63, was arrested on Tuesday and allegedly acted as her undeclared agent People’s Republic of China, according to the announcement of the US Department of Justice. He is suspected of having provided Chinese authorities with information about pro-Taiwan members of the Boston Chinese community between 2018-22.

Liang allegedly gave Beijing the name of a person who destroyed a Chinese flag, a video showing an activist at a pro-democracy protest in Hong Kong and photos of other Chinese dissidents.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

The USA they regularly arrest persons accused of being Chinese spies. In April, two Americans of Chinese descent were charged with organizing an “illegal police station” in New York to watch dissidents. Beijing, which denies espionage, has in turn accused American citizens. A 78-year-old American, a permanent resident of Hong Kong, was recently sentenced to life in prison on espionage charges.

Each time these cases undermine the relations of the two countries, which indulge in unbridled competition, in the diplomatic, military, technological and economic fields.
