The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a statement expressing the his annoyance at the presence of the American destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in “Greek Cypriot” port while at the same time supporting the pseudo-state.

More specifically, the Turkish Foreign Ministry notes in its announcement that “the steps taken in the region by the USA disturb the balance against the Turkish Cypriot side and are an obstacle for a fair, sustainable and long-term settlement of the Cyprus issue”.

“We strongly support the statement of the ‘Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ of the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (‘TRNC’) regarding the anchoring of the US destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in a ‘Greek Cypriot’ port.

As we have repeatedly emphasized together with the ‘TRNC’, the steps taken in the region by the USA which disturb the balance against the ‘T/K’ side damage the long-standing neutral position of this country regarding the Island and are an obstacle for a fair, sustainable and long-term settlement of the Cyprus issue. We call on the US to reconsider these policies.

We wish to emphasize once again that Turkey, as a guarantor country in Cyprus, will continue to resolutely defend the legal rights and interests of the ‘T/K’ under all circumstances and conditions.”
