Jack Douglas Teixeira, a member of the US Air National Guard, will remain in prison pending his trial for violating the Espionage Act, Judge David Hennessy ruled today.

Lawyers for the 21-year-old Teixeira asked the court to place their client under house arrest until the case is heard.

Teixeira was arrested on April 13 and is the prime suspect in the leak of classified documents related to the war in Ukraine and other matters — a leak that has raised questions in Washington about the administration’s failure to protect vital classified information.

“Who did he endanger? The list could be as long as a phone book,” commented the judge in Worcester, Massachusetts, federal court.

Teixeira released these documents to a group of gamers on the Discord messaging app. The leak is considered the most serious breach of US national security since the thousands of documents, videos and diplomatic cables that appeared on the WikiLeaks website in 2010.
