The dead from the bloody clashes in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group have increased to 850according to an announcement by the doctors of the long-suffering country.
In a statement, the Sudanese Medical Association also said 3,394 civilians have been injured in the hostilities.
The Sudanese Medical Association clarified that many deaths and injuries cannot be counted because of the conflicts.
After the first face-to-face talks in Saudi Arabia, the Sudanese army and the RSF signed a statement of commitment on May 11 to protect civilians. Despite this agreement, clashes continued between the two sides, particularly in the capital Khartoum.
Sudan has been without a government since October 2021, when the military dismissed the prime minister’s transitional government Abdullah Haddock and declared a state of emergency in a move denounced by political forces as a “coup”. Elections were scheduled for early 2024.
