Popular actor Jefferson Machado, known for his roles in soap operas, was wanted by the authorities since the end of January
Brazil has been shocked by the murder of a well-known actor, whose body was found inside in a trunk in Rio de Janeiro.
Popular actor Jefferson Machado, known for his roles in soap operas, was wanted by the authorities since the end of January.
Machado’s body was found, bound and stuffed into a wooden trunk, which was buried nearly 2 meters under the concrete floor of a building in the western suburb of Cabo Grande on Monday.
Nine people, including seven police officers, were recruited to pull the trunk out of the hole. According to the authorities, the 44-year-old was identified through his fingerprints on Wednesday.
The property, where the trunk was found buried, is owned by a woman who testified to police that she had rented it to a man, who has been identified as a suspect but has not been named at this time.
Authorities believe that Machado knew the tenant of the property where his body was found, as, a month ago, they saw him go into it. The actor’s family friend, Cynthia Hilsendeger, wrote on his Instagram account:
“Jefferson was murdered in cold blood and brutally by jealous, evil and, of course, ruthless people.”
Machado disappeared on January 29 and, on February 9, was officially declared missing. According to the DailyMail, the actor’s family learned he was missing when a non-governmental agency informed them that his eight dogs had been abandoned at his home in Rio de Janeiro.
His mother, 73, told Brazil’s NotÃcias do Dia that she last spoke to Machado on January 29, adding that he had traveled to Sao Paulo for a job interview and was staying at a friend’s house. She became concerned when she stopped receiving calls from him and only received text messages that were misspelled.
