Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador yesterday urged US citizens of Latin American origin not to vote for Florida Governor Ron DeSandis, Donald Trump’s opponent in the Republican party’s internal process for the nomination of the US right-wing presidential candidate. 2024 elections.

He called on the “hispanos” of Florida to “wake up and not give him any votes” during his daily press conference. “Let’s not vote for persecutors of immigrants, [υποψήφιους] who do not respect immigrants,” added Mr. López Obrador.

Mr. DeSandis, who announced Wednesday that he would face Mr. Trump in the Republican primary, has increased his influence on the American right by pursuing radically conservative policies on issues ranging from education to abortion and immigration in his home state.

Announcing his candidacy via Twitter, he said that if elected president he would “close the border” between the US and Mexico.

Thousands of migrants are on the Mexican side of the border, hoping to enter the US legally.

The winner of the Republican caucus will face the nominee of the Democrats in November 2024 — barring shocking odds, President Joe Biden.
