Who is Cilia Flores, the first lady of Venezuela who drew attention in a meeting with Lula and Janja

Cilia Flores, the first lady of Venezuela, gained prominence this Monday (29) when accompanying her husband on an official visit to Brazil. At the Planalto Palace, she posed alongside the Brazilian president and first lady, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Janja Silva, in addition to attending official ceremonies. At lunch this Monday, she was honored with Nicolás Maduro.

On social networks, Cilia’s presence at the meeting of the two leaders drew attention, not least because of her discreet look, in shades of gray with black dress pants. The comparison with Janja, who wore a looser blue dress, was one of the reasons for comments on the web.

Although little spoken in Brazil, Cilia is known for being one of the most popular names in politics in Latin America, who began her steps as a deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela, in 2000. There, she received the nickname of “first combatant”. Afterwards, Cilia was re-elected deputy in 2005 and led the presidency of the Assembly between 2006 and 2011.

In 2012, she was named Venezuela’s attorney general, reinforcing her influence in local politics. A year later, she married Nicolas Maduro. The two had been in a relationship since the 1990s, when she was a lawyer for then-president Hugo Chávez.

Connected to the figure of the former Venezuelan leader, Cilia helped Chávez in actions linked to coups d’état. In 2002, for example, she chaired the Political Command of the Bolivarian Revolution and was part of the Tactical Command for the Revolution.

Known for her strong personality, Cilia has more than 150,000 followers on her Instagram profile, where she shares images of official events, where she reinforces her image linked to the social life of the neighboring country of Brazil.
