“This man is methodically planning his future. He is preparing to give Law. After his conviction he sent a letter to the mother of the woman he murdered and in a manipulative way tells her “that’s not how things happened”. He wants to give this letter to his daughter».

As a manipulative person “suffering from an objective narcissistic personality disorder”, the psychiatrist, technical adviser to the Crouch family, Alkistis Igoumenakis, described the accused in Caroline’s murder in her testimony in the Joint Court of Appeal Babi Anagnostopoulos.

Having studied dozens of pieces of evidence, including Caroline’s diary, and after interviews with the victim’s mother, the psychiatrist testified in court about her opinion of the 35-year-old pilot, with whom she said she had no contact.

Referring to a manipulative personality, the witness referred to the letter he sent, through his father, to Caroline’s mother after he was sentenced to life in the first degree.

“In this letter, it can be seen how completely manipulative he is,” the witness said, stressing that the defendant uses shocking expressions against the mother of the woman he killed, “inverting reality». The witness said that the accused mentions to Mrs. Crouch phrases like “you know how much Caroline loved me” and “things didn’t happen that way” but also the ending of the letter “when you see her again tell her I love her”.

As the witness stated in her testimony, she believes that Caroline was beginning to look for ways to get out of this marriage. Even citing the phrase from the victim’s diary “he won’t let me go like this” he testified:

“The ‘so’ that Caroline uses in her diary is no accident. “So” tells me something. He knew it wouldn’t go away without repercussions. This girl was fighting. She was confused but wanted to stay in a dream she had chosen to live…”

Mrs. Igoumenaki also said that in the case of the accused, any empathy is completely lacking.

“Against his child who kills his mother while she is nursing him. He takes it at the funeral to see his mother in the casket with 40 degrees. This is not done by a person who loves his child… He lacks any feeling towards the dog that kills him… The narcissist has an arrogance, I am the good one, the kind one, the liked one. It is the “I” but too strong: Everything is our property: Our wife, our dog. He acts without regard for the feelings of others».

The defense of Babis Anagnostopoulos requested that a psychiatric examination be carried out on the accused and that the victim’s father be called to testify. The prosecutor and the court were reserved.

The friend of Caroline Crouchs, Theoni Angelakopoulou, also testified in court.

The witness last saw her friend on May 10, 2021, one day before the crime. “He texted me this morning that he is on the floor crying and that he is not well. He told me to meet. We met in Pagrati for lunch. The taxi that brought her was driven by a friend of the accused. She told me that she is stressed with the part of the house and the child. And that all this did not give her pleasure. It was something he wished was different, less stressful” emphasized the witness.

Witness: Yes, uninvited. He appeared unexpectedly. Caroline looked positively surprised. Which she didn’t expect and didn’t like: she made a grimace of discomfort at me. Something similar had happened before: Once we were at my house. We knew she would come to get her but completely uninvited she came into my house and sat down and felt very comfortable in the space. He had made an impression on me.

Prosecutor: In all the times you were there, did the accused come?

Witness: Yes.

Chairman: Did she tell you that she was thinking of getting out of her relationship?

Witness: No

The policeman Nikolaos Schizmenos, who was at the scene of the crime, also gave a statement. The witness said that the accused’s cell phone played a catalytic role in the case, which was requested after the police authorities had ruled out the robbery. “The defendant’s cell phone played a catalytic role as through the health application he had, we saw that in the time after Caroline’s death there was movement while he himself was supposedly bound and gagged.”

Earlier during her examination by the defense, the couple’s neighbor in Glyka Nera, Aggeliki Gerolimatou, said that she had the impression that “the defendant was also speaking on behalf of Caroline. At the beginning of today’s session, the president of the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal expressed his strong displeasure at the previous interruption of the trial, due to obstructions by the defense attorneys: “When we adjourn for a trial and there is an obstacle it should be announced, otherwise we are led to interruptions and negative comments are made against the Justice and problems are created for the other actors of the trial” he pointed out in a stern tone.

Babis Anagnostopoulos, who was absent at the previous meeting, was today joined by Korydallos for the trial and is expected to return to the Malandrino prison where he is being held in the evening. Tomorrow, the accused is going to start the Panhellenic Examinations from the prison examination center.
