“Russia has used Iranian drones in recent weeks to strike Kiev and terrorize the Ukrainian population, and Russian-Iranian military cooperation appears to be deepening,” White House spokesman John Kirby said.
THE White House stated today that Russia looks to deepen its defense cooperation with the Iran and that he has received hundreds non drones attack that he uses to hit Ukraine.
Citing newly declassified information, the White House said the drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), were manufactured in Iran, transported across the Caspian Sea and then used by Russian forces against Ukraine.
“Russia has used Iranian drones in recent weeks to strike Kiev and terrorize the Ukrainian population, and Russian-Iranian military cooperation appears to be deepening,” White House spokesman John Kirby said.
“We are also concerned that Russia is working with Iran to build Iranian drones inside Russia.”
Kirby said the United States has information that Russia is receiving from Iran materials needed to build a drone production plant that will be fully operational in early 2024.
“We are releasing satellite imagery of the location of the drone manufacturing plant in question in Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone,” Kirby said. Alabuga is about 1,000 kilometers east of Moscow.
Support between the two countries is two-way, Kirby said, with Iran seeking billions of dollars worth of military equipment from Russia, including helicopters and radars.
“Russia is offering Iran unprecedented defense cooperation, including in missiles, electronics and air defense,” he said.
“This is full-scale defense cooperation that is detrimental to Ukraine, Iran’s neighbors and the international community. We continue to use all the tools at our disposal to uncover and disrupt these activities, including by sharing this information with the public – and we stand ready to do more.”
Kirby said the drone transfers were a violation of United Nations rules, and the United States would seek to hold the two countries accountable.
The US has already sanctioned Iranian executives at a defense systems factory for supplying drones to Russia. Iran has admitted sending drones to Russia, but has previously said they were sent before Russia’s February invasion.
“We will continue to impose sanctions on those involved in the transfer of Iranian military equipment to Russia for use in Ukraine,” Kirby said.
Kirby said a new US warning would be issued on Friday “to help businesses and other governments better understand the risks posed by Iran’s drone program and the illegal practices Iran uses to procure components for it.” .
