Indirect talks between Tehran and Washington to revive the 2015 nuclear deal the Islamic Republic struck with six major powers have been deadlocked since September, with the two sides accusing each other of making unreasonable demands.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said today that reaching a deal with the West on Tehran’s nuclear activities is possible as long as Iran’s nuclear industry infrastructure remains intact, state media reported.
“There is nothing wrong with a deal (with the West), but the infrastructure of our nuclear industry must remain intact,” he said, adding that Tehran should continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency as part of safeguards.

In 2019, Iran began violating the terms of the agreement after the US withdrew from it in 2018. The US withdrawal was decided by then-President Donald Trump.
The 2015 deal limited Iran’s uranium enrichment activities to make it harder for Tehran to develop nuclear weapons, in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Iran denies it wants to acquire nuclear weapons.
Both Tehran and Washington on Thursday denied a report that they were close to an interim deal under which Tehran would curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
