Donald Trump’s spokeswoman, lawyer Alina Hamba, stressed outside the federal court in Miami where the former president was taken that he “defies” the charges.

Hamba argued that “countless other people,” including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden, retained classified documents, and “have yet to be prosecuted.” He also mentioned that the US has a “two-step justice system”.

“The people in charge of this country don’t love America,” Hamba said. “They hate Donald Trump. What we are seeing today is the blatant and reckless instrumentalization of the criminal justice system.”

Hamba, however, did not directly say whether her client did the things he is accused of by the Justice Department.

The lawyer compared the current situation “with what it’s happening in Cuba and Venezuela.”

“We are at a turning point in our nation’s history,” Hamba argued. “Targeting, prosecuting a leading political opponent is the state of affairs you see in dictatorships like Cuba and Venezuela.”
