“I sincerely wish you, dear friend, good health, happiness, prosperity and success,” Putin wrote in a message posted on the Kremlin’s website.
Russian President Vladimir Putin today sent a message of praise to his “dear friend” and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the occasion of his 70th birthday, while calling for stronger ties as the conflict in Ukraine continues.
“I sincerely wish you, dear friend, good health, happiness, prosperity and success,” Putin wrote in a message posted on the Kremlin’s website.
“I count on continuing our constructive dialogue and close cooperation on today’s bilateral, regional and international issues for the good of the peoples of Russia and China,” he stressed.
The Russian president also praised Xi Jinping, saying that under his leadership China has recorded “impressive successes: the national economy is registering strong growth, the welfare of citizens has increased, Beijing’s position on the international stage is being strengthened.”
Putin also welcomed his Chinese counterpart’s “efforts” aimed at strengthening “the relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” between Moscow and Beijing.
Russia and China maintain close relations that have strengthened since the February 24, 2022 launch of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the imposition of Western sanctions that have hit the Russian economy.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Moscow in March where he said bilateral relations were “entering a new era”.
