Cinematographer Jean-Claude Lourdes, director of several films and television series that sealed the history of the seventh art in Quebec, has died at the age of 78.

Jean-Claude Lourdes was “a pioneer of cinema and television in Quebec,” Quebec Prime Minister Francois Lego said in a Twitter message of condolence.

The director died Saturday night from the complications of a stroke he suffered on December 30, Jean-Sebastien’s son said in a message posted on Facebook on Sunday.

François Lego states that he has “kept fond memories”, among other works of the director of the TV series “He Shoots, He Scores”, of professional hockey circles, which had caused great excitement in Quebec.

Director, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer, Jean-Claude Lourdes has more than 10 films to his credit, such as Bingo (1974) or The Visit of Terror (1982).

The director’s social commitment, a critic of power and established authorities, “was at the heart of his work,” his son said in a statement. “Jean-Claude Lourdes identified himself not as an artist but as a ‘communicative’ man who liked to question the values ​​of the society in which we live,” he added.
