The developments in Russia are fast-paced after the overnight, sudden decision of the leader of the mercenary organization Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, to rebel against the Russian high command and call on Russian soldiers to side with him.

Putin’s former ally accused the Russian military of shelling the group’s camps, killing many militants, and vowed revenge.
Then began an all-night battle between the two sides and Prigozhin’s advance towards Russian territory which alerted the Russian authorities.

Yevgeny Prigozhin assured today that he entered Russia with his troops in order to overthrow the military hierarchy, declaring that he was “ready to die” with the 25,000 men to “liberate the Russian people”.

In the early hours of the morning, the head of Wagner crossed from Ukraine into the territory of Russia, in the Rostov region, and the regional governor called on residents in the early hours of today to keep calm and “stay at home.

This morning, media reports say that Prigozhin with his fighters and tanks has taken over the Russian army headquarters in Rostov – the building that houses the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the secret services – and Russian military officials are switching camps and joining him.

He stated that “he had to take steps to make sure that the Russian airstrikes hit Ukrainians and not units of the Wagner Group.”
