“The President of Belarus informed the President of Russia in detail about the results of negotiations with the leadership of PMC Wagner”
The Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko had a second telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Saturday night to inform him of the results of his negotiations with Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, Belarusian news agency Belta reported.
“The President of Belarus informed the President of Russia in detail about the results of negotiations with the leadership of PMC (private military company) Wagner,” the press service said in a statement on Saturday.
“The President of Russia supported (the agreement) and thanked his Belarusian counterpart for the work done.”
Earlier, Lukashenko’s office had announced that the Belarusian president had spoken with Prigozhin with Putin’s approval, and that the paramilitary leader had agreed to de-escalate the situation and stop the movement of his fighters, some of whom were advancing towards Moscow.
“I don’t want it to spill Russian blood,” Wagner’s “boss” said in a recorded message, but he appears to have taken heavy trade-offs to halt the advance toward Moscow, notably the maiming of Defense Minister Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov.
