The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyrequested the formulation of a political invitation to Kyiv for joining NATO during the proceedings of the Alliance summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

There is every reason to extend a political invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance“, the Ukrainian president wrote on Telegram.

Volodymyr Zelensky is asking for security guarantees from the Atlantic Alliance to Kiev if Ukraine does not join NATO in the near future.

Today he wrote that “there is full agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine until the time of its admission” to NATO without giving further details.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said last week that he expects Kiev to receive a clear signal and framework for Ukraine’s NATO membership at the July 11-12 Vilnius summit.

Volodymyr Zelensky has pushed hard for Ukrainian accession, but he also admits that this will be impossible while the war with Russia rages on. Today he said that Kiev is making every effort “so that the decisions of the Vilnius summit have real meaning.”
