There were almost 100 passengers on the plane. The plane had taken off from Atlanta bound for Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Wednesday morning.
Shocking images show the plane tipping forward on its nose as dozens of emergency services rushed to help passengers and crew.
However, none of the 96 passengers and Delta employees were injured in the incident and the aircraft landed safely on the runway.
An investigation has already begun into the causes that led to the malfunction of the landing gear.
In a statement, Delta said: “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people. Although this is a rare occurrence, Delta crews are trained extensively to safely handle many scenarios, and Flight 1092 landed safely with no reported injuries. Our next goal is to take care of our customers on this flight, including retrieving their luggage and getting them to their final destination.”
The pilot told the tower at Charlotte Douglas that there were 104 people on board, with the flight circling a few times before it was able to land.
The runway where the plane landed was closed Wednesday until the aircraft could be moved to a safer location.
