The French president Emmanuel Macron convened an inter-ministerial crisis cell meeting after another night of incidents, mainly in Paris, after a 17-year-old teenager was shot dead by a police officer during a traffic control on Tuesday, the presidency announced.

A total of 150 people were arrested during the night between Wednesday and Thursday in France in the new violent incidents that occurred, announced the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanen, who spoke of “heavy violence against the symbols of the Republic”.

“Town halls, schools and police stations were set on fire or attacked,” Darmanen wrote on his Twitter account. “Shame on those who didn’t call for calm,” he added.

This is the third time this year that a policeman in France kills a citizen during a traffic control.

There were three such incidents in 2021 and two more in 2020, according to a Reuters tally, which shows the majority of victims from 2017 onwards they are either black or of Arab descent.
