The Israeli one Mossad announced today that its agents arrested in Iran the man who was allegedly planning a terrorist attack against Israelis in Cyprus, emphasizing that his interrogation “on Iranian soil” led to the dismantling of the network by the Cypriot authorities.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement on Sunday hailing the intelligence operation “which prevented an Iranian terrorist attack against Israelis in Cyprus,” without elaborating.

Cypriot media, citing unnamed sources, had reported that a plan to attack Israeli or Jewish targets, which was prepared by suspects in the Occupied, had been foiled.

According to the Mossad, an Iranian man named Youssef Shahabazi Abasalilou was “captured” during an “anti-terrorist operation on Iranian soil”. During his interrogation he allegedly confessed that he “received detailed instructions and weapons from senior officers of the Revolutionary Guards” to assassinate an Israeli businessman in Cyprus.

In a video released by the Mossad, the arrested person can be seen giving details of his arrival in Cyprus and the preparations for the attempted assassination of the Israeli with the help of “Pakistanis” who were on the island. He says he was ordered to return to Iran because the Cypriot police were on his trail.

Thanks to the information he gave to the investigators, “the terrorist cell was dismantled during an operation by the Cypriot security services”, notes the Mossad, referring to “a barrage of arrests last week in Cyprus”.
