Hannibal Gaddafi, son of Muammar Gaddafi, was taken in “critical condition” to a Lebanese hospital, Dubai-based Al-Hadath TV reported today.
Citing sources, the television network reported that the prisoner, who is on hunger strike, suffered a hypoglycemic episode.
Gaddafi went on hunger strike in early June to protest the fact that he has remained imprisoned since 2015 without trial.
Hannibal Gaddafi has been held in Lebanon since a prosecutor charged him with withholding information about the fate of Imam Musa al-Sadr, a Lebanese Shiite cleric who disappeared while in Libya in 1978.
Announcing his decision to go on hunger strike in early June, Hannibal Gaddafi – who was two years old at the time of Sadr’s disappearance – declared himself the victim of an injustice and argued that he was being blamed for something he had not done.
Lebanese Shiites have for years held the Gaddafi regime, toppled in 2011, responsible for Sadr’s disappearance, saying Libya kidnapped him during his trip to that country.
Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was arrested and summarily executed in 2011.
