The riots that rocked France in the previous days, then the death of 17-year-old Nael by police fire, they caused damage “at least 20 million euros” on public transport in Paris. This assessment was made by IDFM (Ile-de-France Mobilités), the organization that manages public transport in the administrative region of Ile-de-France, which includes the wider area of ​​the French capital.

This figure includes “the buses and the tram that were burnt, two trams that were damaged, as well as the broken benches at the stops”, IDFM told AFP, confirming information previously reported by the newspaper Le Parisien. .

In the last week, in total 39 buses were set on fire in the greater Paris area. Each bus costs almost 350,000 euros, according to the organization’s figures.

Although the riots have been significantly reduced now, buses and trams they returned to the depots at 21:00 (local time, 22:00 Greek time), “for the safety of employees and passengers”, as underlined by IDFM.
