UN aid agencies today expressed concern over the scale of the ongoing Israeli military operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank, where at least 10 Palestinians have been killed, and denounced restrictions on medical access.
“We are concerned by the scale of air and ground operations taking place in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, and the airstrikes hitting the densely populated camp,” said Vanessa Huguenan, a spokeswoman for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha), noting that among three minors are dead.
“Rescuers have been prevented from entering the (Jenin) refugee camp, even to pick up people who have been seriously injured,” added World Health Organization spokesman Christian Lindmeier, referring to the restrictions imposed by Israeli forces.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said in a statement today that Israeli army bulldozers destroyed roads leading to the camp, making it almost impossible for ambulances to access.
“Palestinian rescuers have been forced to move on foot in an area where gunfire and drone strikes are taking place,” the non-governmental organization added.
