Explosions attributed to Ukrainian artillery shells in the eastern city of Makiivka injured at least 25 people, a pro-Russian official said in the early hours of the morning.

The Moscow-appointed head of the authorities of the Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, clarified via the Telegram platform that among the injured are two children, aged 2 years and nine months and seven years, a girl and a boy respectively.

The explosions “were felt by the majority of residents in Makiivka” and the entire region, he added.

Always according to Mr. Pushilin, apartment buildings, a hospital, schools and a kindergarten were damaged.

For its part, the Ukrainian army also reported via Telegram that “as a result of precision fire (…) yet another base of Russian terrorists in the temporarily occupied Makiivka ceased to exist.”

According to the Ukrainian military, the power of the largest explosion in the city was due to the fact that an ammunition depot was hit.

Russian bloggers who regularly monitor the armed conflict reported that the Ukrainian military used HIMARS multiple launch systems, which the US supplied the Ukrainian armed forces.

Earlier, pro-Russian regional governor Pushilin spoke of two dead from Ukrainian artillery fire in Donetsk, which Russia announced earlier this year that it had annexed, something the international community does not recognize.

In Makiivka on New Year’s Eve, a Russian formation was bombed by the Ukrainian army, killing at least 89 of its members.
