The Met Office is forecasting temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius in London from today until Sunday morning
London, Thanasis Gavos
Another yellow public health warning has been issued in Britain this year due to expected unusually high temperatures this three days.
The Met Office is forecasting temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius in London and the rest of SE England, the Midlands of central England, the East of England, as well as Yorkshire and the Humber region in the north-east from today until Sunday morning.
Temperatures are expected to peak around 5pm on Saturday.
This heat wave, “but not a heatwave of short duration” as the Met Office points out, will be accompanied by high levels of humidity that will make breathing difficult for people with respiratory sensitivities.
Therefore, the UK Health Protection Agency is warning citizens with underlying diseases and the elderly, aged 65 and over, to exercise extra care during these days.
However, “impressive” heavy thunderstorms are forecast for many of the affected areas by Saturday night, meaning the Grand Slam tennis tournament at Wimbledon may have to be called off temporarily.
The forecast for the storms says they will be accompanied by intense lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
