London, Thanasis Gavos

His empowerment NATO and continuing to provide support to Ukraine set as priorities of the summit of the Alliance o UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in his statements upon his arrival in Vilnius.

Earlier the prime minister’s office in London had said that Mr. Sunak would call on the partners to further strengthen the Alliance “starting with each country finally getting at least 2% of GDP as defense spending”, noting that last year alone nine of the 30 member countries reached this target.

The British leader will say that 2% should be considered “the floor and not the ceiling” so that NATO is able to deter and defend against all the tactics that Putin has used in Ukraine.

“We cannot let the fog of war obscure the clear lessons our alliance must learn if we are to outlast and outmaneuver those who seek to hurt us,” Mr. Sunak said.
