Details of the time sequence of events surrounding the complaint against a popular BBC presenter that he paid a minor to send him indecent photos have been provided by the British news organization and its Director-General Tim Davey.

Among other things, he revealed that he was informed of the complaint by the family of the alleged victim seven weeks later, that is on July 6, last Thursday.

The same day was also the first time the BBC raised the issue of the complaint to the presenter, he was suspended.

The BBC admitted in a statement that its process for dealing with such complaints did not work and announced an investigation to improve the process.

It was also revealed that the BBC made only two – unsuccessful – attempts to contact the complaining family, the first by email and the second by phone. The first was ten days after the complaint and the second two and a half weeks later.

In addition, London’s Metropolitan Police asked the BBC to drop its internal investigation into the presenter, so that officers can continue to gather evidence to determine whether a criminal offense was committed.
