A bus driver was killed and about 50 people were injured in a crash involving two buses on a highway in the southern Czech Republic, police and rescue workers said.

“According to initial information one of the drivers died instantly. Dozens of passengers were injured on both buses,” the police tweeted.

The accident occurred around 17:00 (Greece time) today Monday near Brno, on a highway that connects this Czech city with the Slovak capital Bratislava.

Speaking to Czech media, members of the emergency services said around 50 people were injured, many of them seriously.

Twenty-six ambulances and three helicopters were deployed to treat the injured, rescue workers said.
