At the “table” of American plans is the use of the Souda base, possibly the port of Alexandroupolis, in case of Russian invasion of Ukraine, as revealed in Sunday’s Daily by Biden’s close associate Michael Carpenter, US Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Souda can be used to transport airborne forces and Alexandroupolis can be used to transport forces to Eastern Europe.
“We will take care to strengthen our deterrent power, together with our Greek friends. “The Gulf of Souda is no secret that it is one of our key strategic advantages that we can use,” said the American official.
Regarding Alexandroupolis, Mr. Carpenter notes that “it is a key hub in the energy network in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. “Greece and the United States are so closely linked in so many different areas, in the Air Force, in the Navy, in the land forces. We are talking about a very close cooperation.”
According to the statements of the American official, the USA has already made plans for the development of the base of Souda and the port of Alexandroupolis.
