Tragedy without end in Hawaii. The confirmed deaths reached 55 from the Lahaina fire, Maui County officials said.
“As firefighting efforts continue, 2 additional deaths have been confirmed today amid the active Lahaina wildfire. This brings the death toll to 55,” a statement said. The county clarified that no other details are available at this time, but they are available fears of more dead.

At least three major wildfires broke out simultaneously on Maui on Tuesday night, cutting off the western part of the island and the historic town of Lahaina, where at least 271 buildings were destroyed or damaged.

There are dozens of people who suffered burns, smoke inhalation and other injuries. The search and rescue operation remains ongoing and thousands of people have hurriedly left the island, either going to shelters or fleeing it.
