The Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti expressed his support for the Albanian opposition of North Macedonia yesterday Friday, with his choice to visit the municipalities of Çair (Skopje regional municipality) and Tetovo, which are controlled by the Albanian opposition, and not to seek a meeting with either the leader of the largest Albanian party, which participates in the government of North Macedonia, Ali Ahmeti of the DUI, but neither with the country’s prime minister, Dimitar Kovacevski.

Albin Kurti yesterday first visited the municipality of Chire, where he participated in a ceremony for the renaming of a street, and then went to Tetovo, where a concert was organized in his honor in the central square of the city, during which a flag of “Greater Albania”.

For the latter, the reaction of the prime minister of North Macedonia was strong.

“The prime minister’s office considers the display of flags that are not national flags to be against protocols and laws for holding events in the presence of politicians from foreign countries. At the same time, the type of iconography observed at the event, in the presence of a high-ranking representative of a foreign country, is inappropriate and unacceptable for a UN member state and a NATO member state, and in this direction we inform you that the police administration of Tetovo is taking measures to locate the perpetrators and the complete clarification of the case” is noted in this evening’s relevant announcement from the office of the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski to the local media.

It is noted that the mayor in Çair is Visar Ganiou, who recently, together with some other DUI officials, left the party and together with the until recently DUI vice-president Izet Mejiti are proceeding to form a new party in North Macedonia, which will be officially announced tomorrow, sunday

The mayor of Tetovo is the leader of the opposition party “BESA”, Bilal Kasami.

Albin Kurti’s visit to Çair and Tetovo caused the “disturbance” of the Albanian party DUI, led by Ali Ahmeti. The co-ruling Albanian party of North Macedonia described the visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo as “private”.

“This visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo to North Macedonia is seen as an attempt to deepen his cooperation with the Albanian opposition in North Macedonia,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia and a senior DUI official, Artan Grubi.

Political analysts in Skopje believe that Albin Kurti, with his visit to Tsire and Tetovo, intended to express his support for the Albanian opposition in North Macedonia, which, like him, often expresses nationalist views.

For his part, DUI’s Ali Ahmadi maintains good relations with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who often criticizes Albin Kurti. In fact, during Rama’s visit to Pristina, about two months ago, Albin Kurti refused to meet with the prime minister of Albania.
