“Photos can’t capture the burning smell and loud bangs,” one passenger wrote in his post.
Passengers on an American Airlines flight from Charlotte, North Carolina to Gainesville Airport in Florida recently experienced absolute terror.
Suddenly, the aircraft began to lose altitude sharply, making a large “dive” while the oxygen masks in the cabin fell and panic set in.
In just three minutes the plane descended 15,000 feet (5 km) while flight data showed a total descent of 20,000 feet in 11 minutes.

“I often travel by plane. It was very scary. Congratulations to the amazing crew and pilots of American Air Flight 5916. Photos cannot capture the smell of burning and loud bangs,” Professor Harrison Hove, who was on the flight, wrote in a post, describing the incident as “terrifying”.
I’ve flown a lot. This was scary. Kudos to our amazing flight crew- cabin staff and pilots on @AmericanAir 5916. The photos cannot capture the burning smell, loud bang or ear pops. Good to be on the ground. #AA5916 #CLT #GNV pic.twitter.com/P8pPrvOQDQ

The pilot was forced to make an abrupt descent of the aircraft when the cabin pressurization system suddenly developed a problem, a FAA spokesperson later told FOX.
Ultimately, the passengers’ adventure had a happy ending as the aircraft landed safely at its destination.
