A night under the stars of the Parisian sky at the top of the Eiffel Tower: two American tourists, after consuming a large amount of alcohol, were found yesterday Monday morning sleeping in the famous monument, where they had been hiding since the previous Sunday night.

The two men were spotted “in the early morning hours”, before the attraction opened to the public at 9am during a check by security workers from the company responsible for running the Eiffel Tower (Seth). The tourists were between the second and third floors of the Tower, in a section not accessible to the public.

“They were not an obvious threat,” Sete stressed.

After paying an entry ticket on Sunday at around 10.40pm, they jumped some security barriers as they descended the stairs from the top of the Eiffel Tower, according to a police source.

Firefighters gathered the two drunken tourists from the scene.

It appears they “remained stuck there due to the large amount of alcohol they had consumed,” Paris prosecutors told AFP.

The two tourists were taken to the police station of the capital’s 7th district for questioning and Sete stressed that she is going to take legal action against them.

No damage was found, there was no illegal entry into a historical or cultural site“, the prosecution said.

The Eiffel Tower reopened to the public about an hour late at around 10am yesterday.

This was a fresh disturbance in the reception of tourists at the monument after two evacuations took place on Saturday following two false bomb warnings. An investigation has been launched by the national center to combat online hate.

Yesterday, three Paris police departments again received an email suggesting that bombs had been planted at the Eiffel Tower.but Sete, with the concurrence of the police, decided not to evacuate the monument.
