The infamous Renelle Destina – known as Ti Lapley and wanted by the FBI – spread death across an entire neighborhood
On foot, on motorbikes or piled into cars, thousands of residents, loaded with bags and suitcases, were leaving yesterday Tuesday a district of the capital Port-au-Prince that was attacked by a gang led by Renel Destina – also known as Ti Lapli and wanted by the US Federal Police (FBI)
At least 3,120 people have left the district since yesterday, while this number may continue to rise, according to an AFP source.

“”They looted and set fire to houses and killed many, We live in an extremely difficult situation. I don’t even know where I’m going. I was forced to leave my home,” Elie Deriska, a resident of the Carrefour-Feige district in the southern part of the Haitian capital, told AFP.
This neighborhood, like many others in Haiti, suffers frequent attacks from the Destina gang, without the protection of the state. In fact, residents demonstrated against the insecurity and the police intervened to enforce order.
As Deriska said, “the authorities did nothing to save us” while according to him, gang members occupied some houses.
The Haitian authorities confirmed yesterday Monday that houses were set on fire. They also reported that they were informed of deaths, which have not yet been confirmed.

Yesterday, Tuesday, panic was evident on the streets of Carrefour-Fayette. Some left with suitcases on their heads, others loaded mattresses and furniture onto the roof of a car.
The police “will continue to deploy all the means at their disposal” to deal with “thugs” who want to “cause disturbances in the communities”, he assured in a statement, but without reassuring the residents, who continued to flee .
For several years, Haiti remains immersed in a multidimensional crisis, economic, political and security, which facilitated the territorial expansion of gangs. Heavily armed gangs are now believed to control about 80% of the Haitian capital and violent crimes are a daily occurrence.
