Mydros against Albanian Prime Minister Edi Ramareleased the elected mayor of Heimarra, Freddy Beleris, who has been detained for the last three months by the Albanian authorities, without being allowed to take the oath to officially take office.

Against the background of the massive rally of support held on Monday, which was attended by the mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannisthe mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas and the Vice-President of the Commission for the defense of the European way of life Margaritis Schinas, Mr. Beleris responds, from prison, to a post by the Albanian Prime Minister.

As he complains, the police followed him “using Hoxha’s shikurimi practices that have been banned since the 1990s, employing a man convicted of fraud” and emphasizes that the prosecutor who subsequently ordered the police to follow him was incompetent.

“When I was arrested, I did not do any illegal act, so there was no automatic process,” he notes, commenting that the judges who started the process against him were all former executives or friends close to the Albanian Socialist Party.

Nowhere in the illegal recordings do I appear to give money to buy votes”, he clarifies and asks Edi Rama to stop putting obstacles in his swearing-in.

“The ‘good’ Edi Rama” would not know that in the 33 years (that is, since the fall of communism) that we have been hearing about electoral crimes, only one person has been arrested, that is me, and I am of Greek origin”, emphasizes Mr. Beleris

Albania does not recognize that an ethnic Greek minority lives in Heimarra. It only recognizes the presence of Greeks in the municipalities of Finikis and Deropolis. Raising the Greek flag is not a right given to us by Prime Minister Rama. It has been happening since the establishment of the Albanian state and was a condition for Albania to be recognized by the League of Nations“, he emphasizes among other things.

Freddy Beleris’ announcement in detail:

“Today I read a very nice (albeit chatty) post. It was written by a good and modern politician who, as I saw, is called Edi Rama. Obviously it will be synonymous with Edi Rama, prime minister of Albania, who a week before the municipal elections of May 2023 publicly called me his “personal enemy” and called me vulgar, calling me scum, trash and the like! It is definitely a synonym because the “good” Edi Rama is written in a different way and refers to another country that is not Albania.

The “good” Edi Rama was disturbed by the grand gathering at Himarra on 14-8-2023 for my release. He says the rally was organized by Greek politicians. He wouldn’t quite understand. The gathering was organized by citizens of Albania, of Greek and Albanian origin, in which mayors from Greece spoke, among others. It was these citizens of Albania who, despite what Prime Minister Rama did, were not intimidated and voted and elected me mayor in May.

“Good” Eddie Rama” refers only to the fact that I also have Greek citizenship. He forgets (like Prime Minister Rama) that I was born in Heimarra, I am of Greek descent and I speak Greek. Everyone in my family speaks Greek, as does the majority of the population of Himarra.

Despite all this, Albania does not recognize that an ethnic Greek minority lives in Heimarra. It only recognizes the presence of Greeks in the municipalities of Finikis and Deropolis. Raising the Greek flag is not a right given to us by Prime Minister Rama. It has been happening since the establishment of the Albanian state and was a condition for Albania to be recognized by the League of Nations.

“Good” Edi Rama” talks about problems that exist throughout Albania with property rights.

He obviously does not know that his namesake Prime Minister Edi Rama, of the entire coastal front of Albania, has designated only Heimarra as a place of strategic investment for tourism. In Heimarra, the properties of the Greeks are looted, not in other areas of Albania.

Only in Himarra do we have “strategic investors” who all happen to be friends of Prime Minister Edi Rama…

The “good” Edi Rama” would not know that in the 33 years (that is, since the fall of communism) that we have been hearing about electoral crimes, only one person has been arrested, that is me, and I am of Greek origin.

“Good” Edi Rama” would also not know that 35 cases of electoral irregularities were reported in the municipal elections in May. Only I have been arrested and remanded in custody.

The “good” Edi Rama” rightly says that the US and Europe supported judicial reform in the Albanian judicial system. But since everything is judged by the result, in my case it is clear that things in justice are not going well since:

–the police were following me with Khoja shigurimi practices that have been banned since the 1990s, recruiting a man convicted of fraud,
– the prosecutor who subsequently ordered the police to follow me was incompetent,
-when I was arrested I did not commit any illegal act so there was no spontaneous procedure,
– the judges who started the process against me were all former executives or friends close to the Albanian Socialist Party,
– nowhere in the illegal recordings do I appear to give money to buy votes.
-the prosecutor in the SPAK special court used a forged document of my alleged conviction in the past while my criminal record, as issued electronically, is clean.
– for an alleged corruption of 40,000 lek (380 euros) I have already been detained for three months. By analogy, how many centuries should Rama’s dozens of associates prosecuted for corruption be imprisoned?

The “good” Edi Rama invokes an Albanian proverb asking “not to burn the duvet for a flea”.

Let me tell him a Greek proverb: “out of onyx the lion”. We don’t need to see much. From what Prime Minister Rama has done in my case, we can draw valuable conclusions about the overall state of justice and the rule of law in my native Albania.

Finally, the “good” Edi Rama says that Greeks and Albanians are “one face, one race”. Maybe yes maybe no. However, Rama as prime minister certainly shows that he is “of the same race, one race” with Erdogan. And Erdogan talks about independent justice and demands that its decisions be respected.

In closing, the “good” Edi Rama says let justice do its job unmolested. Let him then tell Prime Minister Edi Rama to let me be sworn in as mayor. This is not the job of justice. It is a decision of the general director of prisons.

I’m waiting for Edi Rama!”
