In 2022, the EU produced 3.2 billion liters of ice cream, a 5% increase in production compared to the previous year, according to Eurostat data.

Among EU countries, Germany was the main producer of ice cream in 2022, producing 620 million liters of ice cream, followed by France (591 million liters) and Italy (571 million liters).

In addition to the first in ice cream production in 2022, Germany is also the country that produced the cheapest ice cream on average at 1.5 euros per liter.

France reported an average price of 1.9 euros per liter of ice cream, while Italy reported an average price of 2.3 euros per liter of ice cream.

The most expensive ice cream was produced in Austria, with an average price of €7 per litre, followed by Denmark (€4.4 per litre) and Finland (€2.8 per litre).

In 2022, EU countries exported 250 million kg of ice cream to countries outside the EU, with a total value of €930 million. On the other hand, imports of ice cream from countries outside the EU amounted to 61 million kilograms, worth 203 million euros. The amount of ice cream imports from outside the EU fell by 14% in 2022, compared to 2021, while exports fell by only 2%.

France, which exported 53 million kg of ice cream in 2022, accounting for 21% of non-EU ice cream exports, is the largest ice cream exporter of all EU countries.

Followed by the Netherlands (42 million kg of ice cream, 17% of total non-EU exports), Italy (31 million kg, 13%), Germany (28 million kg, 11%) and Belgium (23 million kg, 9%) .
