THE North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched launching strategic cruise missiles from a warshipas part of a military exercise, the Pyongyang News Agency (KCNA) reported earlier today.

The KCNA did not specify when the specific test was carried out, the aim of which was to verify the capabilities of the missile system and train in simulated conditions of real warfare.

Military analysts they estimate that this type of missile has the ability to hit land targets at a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers. The ship from which it was launched appears to be a corvette designed to limit radar detection.

Pyongyang’s naval academies are seen as a response to the annual military exercise that the US and South Korean militaries began today and will last 11 days.

North Korea accuses the two countries of preparing an attack against it, a claim that the Washington and the Seoul they deny.

During the trilateral summit held on Friday at Camp David, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Seok-gil agreed to significantly enhance their defense cooperation in order to deal with – among others – the “challenges of North Korea”.
