Turkish officials have repeatedly expressed Ankara’s interest in playing a mediating role between Russia and Ukraine to revive the deal to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
Russia has blocked Ukrainian ports since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has threatened to treat all ships as potential military targets after pulling out of the deal last month.
The Turkish foreign minister’s visit comes a week after Ukraine announced the operation of a “humanitarian corridor” in the Black Sea to free ships stuck in the sky ports following Moscow’s withdrawal from the deal.
