“We still do not know the circumstances under which this accident occurred. We can have reasonable doubts” said the representative of Elysee – London: “We are not in a hurry to draw conclusions”
Paris and London are cautious about the circumstances of his death Yevgeny Prigozhin, or whether he has actually been killed.
A French government spokesman said Thursday that many details about the plane crash that is believed to have killed Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin “remain unknown”.
When asked by French broadcaster France 2 if he was surprised by the news of the crash, Olivier Veran said according to CNN: “We still don’t know the circumstances under which this accident happened. We can have reasonable doubt.”
Veran added that Prigozhin was the man behind “Putin’s dirty work” and, if he is indeed dead, would leave behind “a terrible mess” in large parts of the world. The French official added that Prigozhin’s actions are an “integral part” of President Vladimir Putin’s policy.
Veran also agreed with US President Joe Biden’s statement that “very little is happening in Russia without Putin standing behind” saying that “in principle this is a truth we can prove”.
For his part, British Education Secretary Nick Gibb said the government should “avoid jumping to conclusions” about the plane crash in Russia.
“This happened just a few hours ago,” he told BBC Radio 4. He added the government was closely monitoring the situation and working with its allies.
