The Russian armed forces announced in the early hours of the morning that Ukraine attempted to attack a civilian target on Russian territory using a modified missile that launched an array of the S-200, a Soviet-made air defense system.

The missile was destroyed by Russian air defenses in the Kaluga region, which borders Moscow, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

There has been no Ukrainian reaction so far.

Earlier, Russian state news agency TASS reported that two of Moscow’s three main civil airports, Vnukova and Damadiedava, had suspended all flights.

Residents of Russia’s Tula and Kaluga regions reported on social media that they heard explosions, according to Russian news website Baza.

This is the eighth night in a row of Ukrainian raids on Russia, mainly with remote-controlled kamikaze drones and aimed in particular at Moscow.

In one of the raids, early Wednesday morning, three civilians died in a border area.

Flights were suspended at Moscow’s main airports for a few hours on Tuesday and last Wednesday.
