Russia announced today that it shot down two Ukrainian drones near Moscow and in a region bordering Ukraine, where four civilians were injured by a Ukrainian strike.
Russian air defenses shot down a drone heading for Moscow overnight, the mayor of the Russian capital said early this morning. Sergey Sobyanin.
“This night, air defense forces shot down a drone heading towards Moscow in the Istra region,” Sobyanin said in a Telegram post.
According to the first information, “there are no casualties or damage. First aid services have arrived in the area,” he added.
Another Ukrainian drone was shot down this morning by Russian air defense in the Shebekino region of Belgorodwhich borders Ukraine, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.
Around 09:00 Greek time, “an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with a drone against locations on Russian territory was prevented,” the ministry said in a post on Telegram.
H Russia also accused Ukrainian forces of shelling a village in the Belgorod region with rocket launchers today, injuring four civilians, according to local authorities.
“Private houses were targeted by shrapnel bombs”, as well as a shop in the village of Urazovo, Valuysk region, the governor of Belgorod said in a Telegram post Vyacheslav Gladkov.
“According to the first information, four people were injured, three men and one woman,” he adds, clarifying that all are hospitalized.
Houses and cars were also damaged by the impact, according to the same source.
This announcement comes at a time when attacks by Ukrainian forces with drones and bombing of Russian areas bordering Ukraine have multiplied in recent months.
Moscow, which had rarely been targeted by Ukrainian forces since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, is now a repeated target, as are other Russian regions and most recently the Crimea, which Russia has annexed. Yesterday, Friday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it shot down 42 Ukrainian drones there.
For his part, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky he welcomed the fact that he sees the war “coming to Russia”.
On Wednesday, authorities in the Belgorod region announced that three civilians had been killed by a Ukrainian drone strike.
On the same day, a drone crashed into a skyscraper in Moscow’s business district, causing no casualties but shattering windows, authorities said.
It was the sixth consecutive day of drone attacks in and around Moscow.
