As of today, September 1, 2023, Musk is still the richest person in the world, a position he also held for much of 2022.

A surge in shares of Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, put Mark Zuckerberg back into the top ten richest people in the world earlier this summer for the first time since January 2022. As of September 1, Zuckerberg is the world’s ninth-richest person, with a fortune worth $105 billion, down $8 billion and two places in the ranking from early last month, according to Forbes estimates.

Google co-founder Larry Page climbed two places to No. 6 this month from No. 8 in early August, as shares of parent company Alphabet rose 3.5 percent. His co-founder Sergey Brin is right behind him, ranked eighth in the world.
